The Henry Clay Estate in Lexington is expanding its offerings by adding an African American History Tour. Slavery was a big issue during Clay's time as a statesman and lawyer. Organizers said Clay bought at least 60 slaves in his life and likely owned more.
Samantha Morrill talked with Jim Clark, Executive Director of the Henry Clay Memorial Foundation and Cameron Walpole, Manager of Tours and Education, about Ashland and the history of the people who were enslaved and employed there.
There will be a public listening session August 24th at the Lyric Theatre in Lexington. People are invited to come and share the oral history of their ancestors at Ashland.
