State Officials Unveil Trick Or Treat Health Guidelines

Stu Johnson

Although new cases did not pass the one thousand threshold as seen for two consecutive days this week, Governor Beshear still announced 910 new coronavirus cases Thursday.

A number of rural Kentucky counties have been listed in the high spread red category.  Beshear doesn’t think higher COVID-19 activity is tied specifically to a reduction in mask wearing. “So, I don’t think it’s necessarily rural counties are more lax in the mask wearing.  I think right now we see almost across the board people being less urgent about wearing them,” said Beshear.

Governor Beshear also reported 17 additional deaths including that of a 29 year old woman from Clark County.  The governor said she had underlying conditions, but added it was coronavirus which contributed directly to her death.?

State officials have released coronavirus related guidelines for families interested in trick or treat on Halloween.  State Public Health Commissioner Steven Stack said children can still go door to door.  Stack used photos to accompany his advice for those giving out candy.  “You can still enjoy these children in their costumes and say trick or treat and tell them they look adorable, just stay on your porch at the door, put the candy out like they have it there at a distance.  And you know what, all of us have done this right, there’s not always kids, so there’s always a gap.  You can go back and reload the candy after they take it, ok,” noted Stack.

Other Halloween guidelines include placing individually wrapped candy on a porch, driveway, or table, trick or treat only in family groups, and pass on adult parties this year.
