Lexington Official Says Info On Prison Coronavirus Outbreak Scarce

A representative from Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton’s office says it’s been difficult to attain information regarding a coronavirus outbreak at the Federal Medical Center.  Information from the Fayette County Health Department revealed 33 inmates had tested positive for COVID 19 Monday.  That number increased to 52 inmates Tuesday.  One staff member has been diagnosed with coronavirus.

Chief of Staff in the mayor’s office, Tyler Scott told city council members limited information has come from prison officials. “We’re not hearing very good reviews about what they’re doing for employees out there or how they’re handling inmates.  We have no inroads on how they can get those inmates treated. Course they’re working with UK healthcare to that aspect,” said Scott.

Scott told the council the city administration has given Fayette Health Commissioner Kraig Humbaugh the, quote, “green light to make as big a deal about it as possible” to get as many of the prison employees tested.  Repeated efforts to contact an official at the Federal Medical Center proved unsuccessful.?
