Kentucky legislative leaders are expected to consider establishing a Kentucky Emergency Preparedness Task Force. A resolution to that affect is being offered this week by Taylor Mill Representative Kim Moser.
The retired nurse said the coronavirus pandemic has impacted all aspects of society including the health care system, economy, educational institutions, family relationships, and religious practices. “This crisis has revealed weaknesses in Kentucky’s preparedness for emergencies such as shortage of medical supplies, including medical equipment, diagnostic testing, and treatment availability,” said Moser.
In explaining the measure, Moser said since 2008 the state health operations center has been activated 125 times to address such issues as the H1-N1 influenza, Zika virus, and hepatitis A outbreak. If given the final go ahead, Moser said the task force would begin meeting this summer with recommendations sought by December.
