The official opening of a new outpatient center in Lexington also marks a rebirth of a portion of the former Turfland Mall. The 85-thousand-square-foot University of Kentucky HealthCare at Turfland sits on the one-time site of a Dillard's store.
Chief of Ambulatory Services Dr. Marcus Randall says family and community medicine takes up a big part of the center, "So that's a large chunk of the space. Not only do they have their clinic space here, but they also have their academic offices here. Their teaching location is here.”
A ribbon-cutting was held Monday for the outpatient facility. Randall says the site offers more convenience for many patients. "We have planned to see more people here, so we have built in capacity to allow ourselves the opportunity to grow in our primary care family and community medicine practice as well as our sports medicine practice," added Randall.
Randall says there could also be more patients seen in travel and occupational medicine. Some 150 HealthCare employees are expected to serve 30 thousand patients at the new outpatient center.
The new Harrodsburg Road facility will also house UK Sports Medicine, Occupational Medicine and Environmental Health, Travel Medicine, radiology and lab services. It will also feature a pharmacy, eye care clinic. The UK College of Dentistry will also have a presence at the site.?
