Ground Broken for New Methodist Home for Children

WEKU News

A new chapter in a long history is being written by the Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children and Youth.  Monday’s groundbreaking focused on centralization.

For almost three decades, the facility off Versailes road has offered residential services for children with histories of abuse and neglect.  It sits on more than 200 acres.  Now, it’s moving to a 35-acre site in Jessamine County.

Methodist Home President Randy Coy says safety and security will be enhanced by putting the facility under one roof., “They don’t need to leave for anything.  Educational space, dining hall facilities, recreation, all of that’s gonna be in one place."

Construction is slated to begin in the next few weeks with completion next summer.  In addition to housing for about 20 youth, the site will eventually feature an equine therapy program and a new chapel.?
