facebook.com

The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice says 70 youth have graduated from DJJ programs during the 2019-2020 academic year.  An additional 11 youth earned general education development standing.

The sub heading to the news release from the State Department of Juvenile Justice states enhancing public safety and reducing recidivism.  It goes on to say even with the population reduction in DJJ facilities due to protective measures tied to coronavirus, the numbers represent a high number of graduates.

Department of Juvenile Justice Commissioner LaShana Harris said one mission of the department is to see that youth in custody receive education and vocational certification to provide them with skills and options to seek higher education or gain viable employment once back in the community.  Youth residents earned 156 vocational certificates during the 2019-2020 academic year.?
