5-Star Rating for Model Bolsters EKU Case For State Support

EKU

Eastern Kentucky University sees a 5-star rating at its on-campus laboratory high school as a chance to improve state recognition.  Model Laboratory School was one of only seven high schools statewide to achieve that score.

Model earned 5-stars, the highest rating in a school report just released by the state education department.  EKU continues to make a case for Model being designated the Commonwealth’s lab school.  EKU Sr. Vice President of Operations David McFaddin said this week’s report is an affirmation of the school's value and worthy of state support.

“Having a school that performs at the highest level, is building practices and pedagogy that is delivering results that can be shared with the state absolutely has a value proposition,” said McFaddin.

Last week, Model administrators were informed by the state education department that future state funding is at risk if the Richmond school continues to charge students tuition.  McFaddin emphasized that Model has operated fully under known guidelines of funding since the mid 1980’s.

EKU plans to work with the state education department to find a legislative solution to the schools funding dilemma.
