Fayette School Board Terminates Contract with Superintendent Search Firm

The Fayette County school board has voted to terminate its contract with PROACT Search Inc.

The Lexington-Herald Leader reports the firm was hired to find a new superintendent for Fayette County Public Schools.

School board chairman John Price called Sunday’s meeting in the wake of a Chicago Sun-Times report that PROACT Search CEO Gary Solomon made racial slurs in a 1999 email when he was a school administrator and teacher in Illinois.

Price says given the allegations against Solomon, the board was not confident about moving forward with his company.

The school board is trying to find a replacement by July for Tom Shelton, who resigned in December.

Price says those who applied through PROACT will be given full consideration.
