Lexington’s Division of Police is launching a new initiative aimed at giving the public more opportunities to participate in tracking down criminals.
The police department’s new website allows citizens to see some of the unsolved cases and, in turn, lend a hand in identifying suspects. The Lex-ID-me online site features surveillance images of individuals suspected of criminal activity.
Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said, quote, “Lex-ID-me allows residents to see some of the photographic evidence we have for open cases and submit tips directly to the investigating detective.” The majority of cases submitted are shoplifting and other theft-related crimes.
