Gateway Health District Director Says COVID Color Ratings Are Fluid

State COVID-19 web site

Menifee County was one of only four counties statewide designated as orange for coronavirus spread Wednesday morning.  The remaining 116 counties were all in the highest level of red.

The central-eastern Kentucky county is one of five served by the Gateway Health District.  Director Greg Brewer said Wednesday he didn’t expect Menifee to stay at the orange level. “It’s such a small county, small population that ticks either direction will take it down to yellow or it could take it back up to red.  It only takes three or four.  You could have a day where you might have one or two and you’ll have a day where you’ll have four.  Like I said yesterday we were up to eight.  That was the most we’ve had in one day since it started,” said Brewer.

While complaints surrounding mask wearing have come into Brewer’s office, he says, lately, better mask compliance is being observed.  Brewer says he knows of only one incident where a citizen became irate over lack of mask compliance in a business.  In addition to Menifee, Cumberland, Green, and Crittenden were all listed in the orange category Wednesday morning.
