Business and Educators Gather for Workforce Summit

kcc.ky.gov

Business leaders, educators, and workforce training officials are gathering today for the third Kentucky Workforce Summit.  The day- long event is coordinated by the state chamber of commerce.  Kentucky Workforce Center Director Beth Davisson says the private sector is rolling out a statewide talent pipeline management program. “We’re going to be training 20 people to have the training to roll out these sector strategies, but also have the technology to create the data and have the metrics on how those sector strategies are performing and how the talent pipeline is being filled,” said Davisson.

Davisson says the focus in talent pipeline management is a, quote, “learn and earn” model where students take classes
while working with participating companies.  She says it just exemplifies the need for employers and education officials maintain a close connection.

In addition to discussing ways to better connect the business sector with education systems, participants will also learn about pressing day-to-day issues.

Beth Davisson says that certainly includes drug addiction.
“The drug epidemic is plaguing our workforce.  It’s literally killing it.  And Kentucky is kind of in the epicenter of that epidemic,” said Davisson.

Another session at the Workforce Summit is entitling “The Business Case for Diversity.”
