Improvements to Lexington’s Rupp Arena will cater to more than just University of Kentucky basketball fans. Rupp Officials unveiled the latest technologies this week including $15 million worth of upgrades that could affect the concert schedule.
Much attention is being given to a new center-hanging video board, new sound system, LED lighting and an enhanced rigging grid for concerts.
Rupp Director of Arena Management Carl Hall says the downtown venue previously couldn’t accommodate some major acts. “I can now go after virtually any touring show out there that’s on the road and not have to worry about a weight restriction. So that improvement came into play in this same 15 million dollars,” explained Hall.
As an example, Hall says Rupp hasn’t been able to handle a performer like Paul McCartney with his concert equipment. The veteran Rupp manager admits scheduling remains a challenge for someone such as the former Beatle.?
