Record Crowd Participates in Minority Business Expo

A record crowd participated in this year’s Minority Business Expo in Lexington.  An organizer says it’s currently a positive environment for growing minority and women owned businesses locally.

Much attention nationally has focused on relations between African Americans and police in specific communities.  Lexington Minority Business Expo Coordinator Marilyn Dishman says that scrutiny is not hindering efforts to establish minority owned businesses locally.  “I don’t see any division here in our community in terms of opportunities and businesses working together.  The police come here every year.  They’re one of our greatest advocates. We started out of the city of Lexington.  So, we have a very strong relationship with them,” said Dishman.

Dishman says the expo Thursday included a business opportunity exchange where local business men and women met with leaders of larger corporations.

Lexington Council member Bill Farmer attended the expo.  He says 14 years of the event shows the aim is to work toward the ‘betterment of all.’ ?
