About half of Kentucky’s counties will see population growth by 2050, according to new census projections.

Warren County is expected to add the largest number of residents by midcentury, according to a report from the Kentucky State Data Center at the University of Louisville.

Scott, Madison, Shelby and Spencer round out the top five growth counties through 2050.

Warren alone is forecast to add 70,000 residents, making it Kentucky’s third most populous county. Jefferson and Fayette are expected to hold on to first and second place.

Kentucky overall will add about 234,000 residents. About half the state’s 120 counties, though, will lose population.

The biggest losses are projected in Letcher, Pike, Leslie, Knott and Martin, all in eastern Kentucky.
