Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton has extended the city’s state of emergency until Wednesday morning.

Gorton encouraged residents to stay home so street crews and first responders can do their work.

The extension postpones the requirement that property owners clear their sidewalks.

Scheduled garbage collection on Tuesday has been suspended. City offices will remain closed on Tuesday.

The Fayette County Clerk’s office and the University of Kentucky campus are closed on Tuesday.

Gorton’s state of the city-county address will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Central Bank Center.

Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities, while reporting few power outages, is encouraging customers to reduce nonessential use of electricity due to demand.

That includes limiting use of ovens, dishwashers, washers and dryers and EV chargers.
