UK Health’s Ian McClure talks AI and higher education

The use of artificial intelligence on college campuses is growing, in classrooms, research laboratories, and administrative offices.

To get a better understanding of the evolving intersection between higher education and AI, Eastern Standard spoke with Ian McClure, Vice President for Innovation at UK Health Care.

McClure was part of the creation of CATS AI, the Commonwealth AI Transdisciplinary Strategy, which launched in November.

McClure said upon taking a survey of people on campus, he found that most people were already using it.

“We held town halls with faculty senate, staff senate, our student government association, with deans, with researchers, our health care administrators. And we listened. A big part of our process was listening.”

McClure said his team sought input from everyone.

“The strategy we took about nine, 10 months to fully develop is meant to be broadly matrixed, touching all four corners of our campus and health system, and also very participatory.”
