Local governments are getting federal funds to help them build back from recent disasters after a months-long wait.
President Trump approved public FEMA assistance for counties affected by April’s floods and May’s tornadoes.
Both the President and Governor Andy Beshear made the announcement on social media Tuesday evening.
That assistance helps local governments and some nonprofits repair infrastructure like roads and bridges. It’s different from individual assistance, which has been offered by FEMA for months and helps victims directly.
Kentucky will be getting $56 million between the two disasters.
The months-long gap in federal funding comes as Trump has called on FEMA to be eliminated. FEMA’s search and rescue chief resigned Monday amid frustrations with the agency’s delayed response to the floods in Texas.
Beshear said Tuesday evening the state would give further details soon.
