Those living in Caldwell, Laurel, Pulaski, Russell, Trigg, and Union counties can apply for assistance. That includes temporary housing, loans, and home repair.

Gov. Andy Beshear says at least 19 were killed and three are in critical condition after a tornado swept through Somerset and London earlier this month.

Disaster recovery centers are open in Laurel and Pulaski counties. FEMA spokesperson Danny Bernardy said they’re planning to open more.

“They’re in the process of identifying those sites as we speak. The state had these sites open for assistance already, and so we are now joining them at the same sites.”

Bernardy said anyone even slightly impacted should apply.

“Maybe you didn't lose everything and you just have some minor damage. You should still come and talk to us because you may be eligible for assistance.”

Individuals and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas should first file claims with their insurance providers and then apply for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-3362, or by using the FEMA App.
