WEKU, NPR for Northern, Central, and Eastern Kentucky, has been honored with four regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for work produced in 2024
The Murrow Awards are presented by the Radio and Television Digital News Association and are among the most prestigious in broadcast and digital journalism. WEKU won in the Region 8, Small Market Radio Division, competing with similar-sized outlets in Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
“These awards are a powerful reminder that public service, fact-based journalism matters”, said WEKU Director and General Manager Mike Savage. “The Murrow awards are considered some of the highest honors in the journalism profession. This is a team honor, and I am proud to lead such a talented staff, said Savage.
WEKU won in the following categories:
Excellence in Writing for Canine Counselor
Feature Reporting for One Woman’s Mission to Clean up Kentucky

All four awards now move on to the national competition. RTDNA, which administers the awards, will announce the national winners in August.
