Flood recovery and clean-up efforts continue throughout much of Kentucky. Governor Beshear is waiting for President Trump to respond, to see if he will approve a Federal Disaster Declaration for the most recent round of flooding to hit the Commonwealth.

During his Team Kentucky update, Governor Beshear explained what he is asking for to help Kentuckians.

“In this request, we first asked for individual assistance. That can help individuals impacted in the select counties to have immediate needs dollars, dollars for cleaning supplies and up to just over $40,000 to rebuild their lives depending on their application.”

Governor Beshear said he has also put in a request for public assistance to help counties and cities recover from the flood damage.

He has asked for assistance for nearly 40 counties and asked for hazard mitigation assistance for the entire Commonwealth.

The governor says more counties will be added as the process moves forward. He expects disaster recovery centers to be located in dozens of counties.

Governor Beshear told Kentuckians to be careful during the clean-up process and take every safety precaution they can.

“Public Health has also received shipments of Tetanus and Hepatitis A vaccines. Remember, during flood clean-up, it's important to have your Tetanus vaccinations up to date. Flood waters can be contaminated with sewage therefore the Hepatitis A vaccination should also be considered for anyone doing this work.”

There are still 25 shelters open across Kentucky, with just over 400 people currently using them.
