Governor Andy Beshear has joined a coalition of governors and states' attorneys general in suing the Trump Administration over its decision to cut $11 billion in funding for COVID-19 and other public health projects.

Kentucky's governor and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and 21 attorneys general argue the cuts are illegal and that the federal government did not provide a “rational basis” or facts to support the cuts.

The lawsuit says these cuts will result in “serious harm to public health” and put states “at greater risk for future pandemics and the spread of otherwise preventable disease and cutting off vital public health services.”

They are asking the court to immediately stop the Trump administration from revoking the money.

The funds were allocated by Congress during the pandemic and were mostly used for COVID-related efforts such as testing and vaccination.

The money was also used to fund addiction and mental health programs.

When asked about the lawsuit, the U.S. Health and Human Services Department, told the Associated Press, it does not comment on ongoing litigation.
