Flood and winter storm recovery efforts continue in eastern Kentucky. State and federal officials are using what they learned in the 2022 floods to help survivors of this most recent disaster. Part of that is setting up disaster relief centers in the hardest hit areas.

During a press conference, Governor Beshear said these will act much like the ones previous brought to eastern Kentucky in the aftermath of the 2022 flood.

“They'll have multiple state and federal agencies trying to help you with all your needs in one place. The first two disaster recovery centers are in the county that was hit hardest, Pike.”

At least three people died in Pike County as a result of the storms.

Governor Beshear said they have also opened some state-led registration intake centers in a couple of counties.

“These are not the permanent centers, but FEMA, once this disaster declaration went through, wanted to the get started. I can report, we've already had over a thousand people come in and talk to FEMA representatives.”

Kentucky was recently approved for both public and individual assistance for flood relief. Kentucky was also approved to allow those who use SNAP benefits in the following counties impacted by the flooding and winter storm to purchase hot foods...
Breathitt, Clay, Harlan, Knott, Lee, Letcher, Martin, Owsley, Perry and Pike, and for economic injury in the contiguous counties of Bell, Estill, Floyd, Jackson, Johnson, Knox, Laurel, Lawrence, Leslie, Magoffin, Powell and Wolfe.
