The Kentucky Retail Federation is touting record holiday sales. Citing U.S. Census Bureau data, the KRF said retail sales nationwide during the holidays were up 4 percent, to $994 billion. Steve McClain is the director of communications and public affairs for the organization that represents more than 6-thousand businesses across the state.
“I know, just in talking with a few of our members, anecdotally, that, you know, things seemed to go pretty well. And it started with the run up to the Thanksgiving weekend.”
The Kentucky Retail Federation considers holiday season to be the last two months of the year. McClain said what some retailers consider the Super Bowl of shopping exceeded many expert’s expectations.
“They were talking about a two and a half, three and a half percent increase, and it comes in at four. So I think they were probably a little surprised by that.”
According to the KRF, holiday online sales nationwide rose 8.6 percent and total retail sales for 2024 were up 3.6 percent to a record $5.28 trillion.
