Letcher County and the city of Fleming-Neon are getting nearly $10 million to help improve their water lines.

That money comes from the USDA’s Rural Development disaster water grants.

It’s the first round of such grants to be awarded in Kentucky.

Fleming-Neon will get five-and-a-half million dollars for water line improvements and another one-and-a-half million dollar grant to improve their lift station.

Letcher County Water and Sewer is getting another two-and-a-half million dollars for meter replacements.

A state of emergency was declared in Fleming-Neon last January during a water shortage.
