A Lexington youth choir showcasing different worldwide cultures is holding its second-annual winter concert. Shepherd Snyder has more.
Uniting Voices Lexington is an after-school program for young singers who learn and perform music from all over the world. The program launched in the fall of last year as the first chapter outside its parent ensemble in Chicago.
They’ll be performing songs from countries like Cuba, Germany, South Africa and Ireland, alongside standard sing-along Christmas carols.
Michael Preacely is the group’s director. He says its mission is to celebrate diversity.
“There's so many different music types and styles of music that are out there, and to have these children be exposed to that is so important for not only their growth, but for their children, you know, as we build on and affect generations beyond us,” Preacely said.
The concert will take place at 7:30 this Sunday at Transylvania University’s Mitchell Fine Arts Center.
