WEKU's Stu Johnson has retired after 40 years of reporting for the public radio station. Over the years, Stu covered many beats, including Lexington/Fayette County Government. Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton got wind of Stu's retirement and honored the veteran reporter last month, as the city proclaimed November 21st as Stu Johnson Day.

Stu began his reporting career at Eastern Kentucky University as a student reporter for WEKU. He then took a job reporting for WEKY in Richmond and returned to WEKU as a full-time reporter in 1984.

Stu retired from WEKU at the end of November capping a four-decade career.

Station staff honored Stu at a retirement party Monday at WEKU. Stu recalled many major stories he covered over the years and said journalism is still important today because people need to know what's happening around them and in local government.

Mike Savage joined WEKU in 2018 as Director & General Manager. He has worked in public radio for 30 years and has managed public radio stations in Georgia, Illinois and Indiana. In his current role as WEKU Director & General Manager, Mike directs station operations, programming, news and fundraising.
