More help is on the way for eastern Kentucky schools damaged by the historic floods of 2022. Money from the East Kentucky SAFE fund is being sent to Perry County to help with repairs.

During a press conference on Thursday, Governor Beshear named the schools that would be receiving the funding.

“We're providing more than 5.6 million dollars to the Perry County School District to help cover additional expenses due to the floods as they work to rebuild Buckhorn School and Robinson Elementary.”

Governor Beshear took time to thank those in the school systems across the flood impacted region.

“All the public school staffing in eastern Kentucky for everything you've done. Rising to what seemed like an insurmountable challenge of being there in the moments after the floods because all of the relief centers were in our public schools. To make sure you took care of the people around you.”

The governor also made a point to thank the Kentucky General Assembly for working together to help fund both the East and West Kentucky SAFE funds.

The East Kentucky SAFE fund helps communities in eastern Kentucky with flood repair, and the West Kentucky SAFE fund helps communities in western Kentucky with tornado recovery.
