WEKU wins four 2024 Excellence in Broadcasting Awards

WEKU was honored with four Kentucky Broadcasters Association Excellence Awards. The awards ceremony was held at Central Bank Center in Lexington on Monday evening.

Sam Dick won Best Special Program of Feature and Uniquely Kentucky for the Off the Beaten Path series; Shepherd Snyder, Stu Johnson, Shepherd Snyder, and Stan Ingold won Best Digital Presence for their work on a variety of online stories.

Mike Savage won KBA's inaugural Broadcast Leadership Award.

Savage also presented the KBA's J.T Whitlock Life Service Award to Roger Chesser for his work over the years at many Kentucky radio and TV stations. Roger is the host of Jazz Classics on WEKU.

This year, WEKU was the only Lexington radio station to win KBA Excellence Awards. The station was a finalist in 7 categories.

Mike Savage joined WEKU in 2018 as Director & General Manager. He has worked in public radio for 30 years and has managed public radio stations in Georgia, Illinois and Indiana. In his current role as WEKU Director & General Manager, Mike directs station operations, programming, news and fundraising.
