Development on the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor is making progress after a property agreement with Kenton County. It involves the construction of a new underground parking garage for the Kenton County Government Center.

“We appreciate the commonwealth working with Kenton County to mitigate the loss of parking caused by the Brent Spence Bridge project,” Kenton County Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann said in a release. “Convenient and abundant parking was key to our decision to relocate the Kenton County Government Center to the 12th Street interchange, and this solution makes us whole.”

The garage will replace a parking lot beneath an already-existing bridge that’s a part of Interstates 71 and 75 in Covington. That lot will be transformed into a right-of-way passage for the corridor. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is putting $15 million dollars into the relocation.

The Brent Spence Corridor Project was announced late last year to help improve travel and safety between Kentucky’s Dixie Highway and the Western Hills Viaduct in Ohio. The project is set to cost $3.6 billion and includes a newly constructed companion bridge.
