Victims of violent crime in the commonwealth are getting some additional help from Frankfort. Last week, Governor Beshear announced nearly eight-million dollars will be used by fifty-six programs and projects across Kentucky.
During his Team Kentucky briefing last week Governor Beshear said there are many ways this funding can be used.
“We use it for re-entry services and recidivism reduction, prosecution and law enforcement response to violence as well as the enhancement technology to response to criminal victimization.”
Governor Beshear also said some of the money is going to the Georgetown police department.
“The Georgetown police department being able to engage in a comprehensive response to violent crime by assisting victims through advocacy and providing more resources for investigating violent crimes. Their chief says, by combining these initiatives they learn more about the source of criminal behavior and can create strategies to help prevent future crime.”
The governor says nationally VOCA funding has been reduced. These funds come from Kentucky’s State Fiscal Recovery Fund of the American Rescue Plan Act.
