A new study finds most Kentuckians support the legalization of medical cannabis. Recently released polling show more than 90 percent support the change in the law.
Earlier this year Governor Beshear created a medical cannabis advisory council. Their goal is to go around Kentucky, talking to residents about their thoughts on legalization. The governor said their findings show Kentuckians want an alternative to opioids.
“The summary included a couple of key findings. Kentuckians of all ages are suffering from chronic conditions. Medical providers are prescribing opioids and painkillers that aren’t working. Kentuckians are fearful of their addictive properties.”
Beshear said these polling numbers need to be looked at by the state legislature when the issue comes up again.
“Despite wide public support, legislation on medical cannabis continues to fail in the General Assembly. When 90% of people are for something the General Assembly refuses to pass, that is a direct failure of the General Assembly that is supposed to serve the people that it represents.”
The governor is still looking at possible executive action that can be taken to legalize medical cannabis.
