Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton announced Friday she is vetoing a recently passed ordinance allowing rural solar development on 1% of Fayette County agricultural land.
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council passed the ordinance in a split, 8-7, vote Sept. 10.
Industrial solar has been the subject of debate for months among council members following a 2024 ban on such development.
The council has the ability to override the veto.
This is a developing story.
