Lexington’s Legacy Trail will be extended by just over two miles beyond the Kentucky Horse Park and into Scott County.
The new section of the trail will cross over into Scott County and connect to the Lisle Road Soccer Complex.
Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear visited Georgetown to award $1.6 million dollars in funding to Scott County. Beshear says the extension will include a trailhead with more than 200 parking spaces.
“It'll include a restroom facility, a bike rack, a repair station, landscaping, a seating area and more,” Beshear said. “The upgrades will allow users of the trail to take longer trips, while still having those necessary facilities.”
Funding for the trail’s extension comes from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Transportation Alternatives Program. The extension of the Legacy Trail would make it 14 miles from beginning to end.
The City of Georgetown also received more than $400,000 dollars to complete sidewalk repairs. The City of Sadieville in Scott County received more than $47,000 to build a splash pad in its Veterans Park.
