Hundreds of soldiers at Kentucky's Fort Campbell are preparing for a mission in Liberia. Some 800 to 900 soldiers at the southern Kentucky military base have been educated this week on disease prevention. 101st Airborne Division Lieutenant Colonel Brian DeSantis says the training is focused on Ebola, malaria, and yellow fever.
"Where we actually put the uniform on in the right sequence, take the protective gear off in the right sequence, and then we get tested on our ability to put on the protective gear and take off the protective gear," said DeSantis.
DeSantis says the mission calls for Fort Campbell soldiers to build Ebola treatment centers all over Liberia. "We're building the facilities and training the personnel to man those facilities where Liberians can come if they think they have symptoms of Ebola and get tested and then cared for if they do," added DeSantis.
DeSantis says soldiers are prepared to serve in Liberia for as long as directed. He says it's difficult to say how long the construction and training program will take to complete. The soldiers are scheduled to arrive in Liberia later this month.?
