Pot pics on Facebook lead to drug charges

Posting photos on Facebook has led to a Frankfort man being indicted Wednesday for trafficking in marijuana. Donald Newton, 39, of 974 Wilkinson Blvd., allegedly posted photos on his Facebook page of marijuana shaped as a birthday cake with a candle on top and of him holding a wad of cash.Commonwealth’s Attorney Larry Cleveland said deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office had received information prior to this about Newton trafficking in marijuana and oxycodone from his house.

“They conducted surveillance on the house, and they saw a lot of trafficking going in and out of the house,” Cleveland said.

Deputies received a search warrant and found 4 pounds of marijuana.

Newton is charged with trafficking in marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school and being a persistent felony offender. His wife, Emma Newton, 34, is also charged with trafficking in marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school.
