Kentucky state police will be out in force Labor Day weekend as part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign. The campaign is part of a national push to keep drunk drivers off the road during one of the busier travel weekends of the year. Last year in Kentucky, a total of 4,762 collisions were caused by drivers under the influence - 167 were fatal. It's a grim number, but Lt. David Jude with the Kentucky State Police says there are some positive trends to report as well. "We're somewhere around 50 fatalities fewer than we were at this time last year and that's a trend that's been happening over the last six years in the state of Kentucky. We really want that to continue," Jude says.
Jude attributes the decline partially to education and enforcement, but mostly to the drivers themselves. He says Kentuckians are making better choices on the roads, and the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is meant to remind everyone to play it safe during the holiday weekend.
