WEKU was honored with four 2019 Kentucky AP Broadcasters awards for journalism excellence. The awards include:
- First place in Long Light News Feature for Cheri Lawson’s story, "Grief Camp For Kids"
- Second place in Long Light News Feature for Cheri Lawson’s story, “Road To Recovery”
- Third Place in Long Serious News Feature for Cheri Lawson’s story, “What Father's Day Means For Transgender Parents”
- Third place in Short Public Affairs in collaboration with Kentucky Humanities for “Think History – Muhammad Ali”
WEKU Director & General Manager Mike Savage says the honors are a testament to the hard work and dedication of WEKU staff. “It’s nice to be recognized by your journalism peers as an award-winning station. I am proud of this organization and the stories they are reporting on in Central and Eastern Kentucky,” said Savage.
