New Transmitter Announced

WEKU General Manager Mike Savage announced this morning that the station is purchasing a new Transmitter at a cost of about $100,000.  The transmitter will replace older equipment that began failing two years ago at the Clays Ferry broadcast site.  The special announcement was made during the stations 'Power Hour' which kicked off the 50th anniversary Membership drive. EKU VP Dr. David McFaddin joined Savage on the air this morning to help make the announcement.  Dr. McFaddin says the University is behind the station 100 percent.  McFaddin says "WEKU is a valuable resource to the EKU and the community and we are proud to be supporting this valuable community service."  Savage says "this is a historic day for WEKU and its listeners as the station celebrates its 50^th anniversary.”  The transmitter will return WEKU back up to full power at 88.9 FM which serves Richmond and Lexington.  The new transmitter is expected to go online in about 12 weeks.  Support for the new transmitter was provided by WEKU members, EKU and special funding from corporate partner East Kentucky Power Cooperative.  WEKU began service October 7, 1968.
