WEKU continues seeking comments on new Weekend Lineup

Two new Friday programs will kick off the weekend lineup for WEKU on January 4th.  The Dinner Party and Wits are both new offerings from American Public Media.  Friday Evenings

6:00 pm- The Dinner Party, making its debut Friday evening at 6:00, is an hour-long celebration of culture, food, and conversation designed to help you dazzle your friends at weekend get-togethers.  In every episode, you will learn a joke...get an opportunity to bone up on an odd bit of history and then wash it down with a themed cocktail…meet an artist of note (say, Spike Lee or Willie Nelson)…learn the answers to your burning etiquette questions…savor an emerging food trend…and hear your new favorite song.

Each hour-long show will also offer unconventional wisdom from hosts Rico Gagliano and Brendan Francis Newnam.

7:00 pm – Wits is a live show that brings world-class comedians, actors and musicians to the stage of the Fitzgerald Theater, where host John Moe gives them and the audience the time of their lives.

The show mixes improv, sketch comedy, conversation, music and genuine beauty in a program praised as "One of the rare public radio comedy shows that's actually funny" (Huffington Post) and "A wildly successful radio show ... both a throwback to the radio's golden age and also wholly modern" (City Pages, Minneapolis).

Saturday afternoons

2:00 pm - The Moth Radio Hour features true stories told live on stage without scripts, notes, props or accompaniment.  Moth storytellers stand alone, under a spotlight, with only a microphone and a roomful of strangers.  Each hour mixes humorous, heartbreaking, and poignant tales that captivate, surprise, and delight with their honesty, bravery, and humor.

This program has aired previously on WEKU in limited series.  In 2013, it is available as a regular weekly show.

3:00 pm - TheTED Radio Hour–  A journey through fascinating ideas, astonishing inventions, and new ways to think and create. Based on riveting TEDTalks from the world's most remarkable minds.   This is one of the new NPR pilot shows aired during the summer of 2012.  It was well-received by WEKU listeners and  those at other NPR stations, so it is now also a weekly show.

Sundays –

5:00 am   Fresh Air Weekend– The weekend version of the popular daily NPR show with Terry Gross, and features some of the best segments from the weekday shows.

3:00 pm – Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me A repeat of NPR’s popular Saturday morning quiz show, hosted by writer, actor and comedian Peter Sagal and official judge and scorekeeper Carl Kasell.

4:00 pm – Ask Me Another- NPR's exciting new show featuring puzzles, word games and trivia played in front of a live audience, hosted by comedian, writer and actross Ophira Eisenberg. This is another of those new shows we aired in “pilot” form last summer.
