Presidential Inauguration Brings Heightened Security At Kentucky's Capitol

This week’s inauguration of President-Elect Joe Biden has brought with it increased security at many state capitols including Kentucky’s building and grounds in Frankfort. 

Both Kentucky State Police and national guard units were positioned around the Capitol Sunday.  The FBI had indicated armed protests could occur in state capitol cities.  KSP Sergeant William Gregory was asked if security will remain in place this week. “Again, I can’t disclose that information,” said Gregory.

Two small groups of armed protesters showed up Sunday at the state capitol and stayed for a relatively short time.  Gregory said Governor Beshear is committed to protecting the grounds and the building.  He added there was no one in the building Sunday.  The Kentucky legislature is on recess until February second.?
