State Leaders in Both Houses Optimistic About Fall Elections

sos.ky.gov

The deadline to file to run for office in Kentucky is at 4:30 pm Tuesday  afternoon. Leaders in both houses of the state general assembly are predicting a good cadre of candidates in this fall's elections. House Speaker Greg Stumbo says he’s pleased with the crop of democrats signing up to run.  “We’ve had some folks we hoped would run again like Ashley Miller down in Jefferson County,” said Stumbo.  “She got really close last time, but you know, we’ve got some surprises too.”

Senate Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer says he anticipates Kentucky republicans will be successful in November.  Although not involved in recruiting GOP candidates in the House, Thayer says some senate republicans will likely do some campaigning for House candidates.  “I mean I have a special election in my district on March 8 so I’m gonna do everything I can to help Phil Pratt win that race," Thayer said.  "I suspect many of our senate members are going to have competitive house races in their districts that they will be helping with.”

Much attention is on the House with 4 special elections coming up in March. Democrats hold a slim 4 seat advantage in that chamber. ?
