Being away from your home court usually is considered a tougher challenge when it comes to basketball games.  But, that certainly wasn’t the case last night for the Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team.

It was a home away from home contest for Eastern Thursday night, playing Jacksonville State on Berea College’s court.  EKU’s traditional home court, McBrayer Arena is the site for this weekend’s All A High School Basketball Tournament.   The southern Madison County sports complex proved just right for the Colonels as they handed the Gamecocks their first loss in the Ohio Valley Conference 88 to 70.

It was a game which saw Jacksonville jump to an early lead, only to see EKU come on to take a 26 point lead into the halftime break.  Showing their top of the league strength, Jacksonville cut the EKU lead to nine in just over five minutes in the second half.  But, Eastern responded and pulled away for the easy win.

The Colonels take on Tennessee Tech Saturday night in Georgetown.  The EKU women’s team lost last night to Jacksonville 53 to 44.  They also play Tech Saturday afternoon in Georgetown.?
