& 2: .Foreign Correspondent for NPR, TOM GJELTON. He's been reporting from Bosnia. GJELTON won the prestigious George Polk Award for his piece, "Massacre on the Mountaintop." The piece aired September 22, 1992 and described a massacre of 200 Bosnian Muslim men. The George Polk Award honors excellence in journalism. GJELTON also reported on the Gulf War and on the conflicts in Central America. (REBROADCAST from 4/6/93).Foreign correspondent for "Newsday," ROY GUTMAN. He and his photographer were the first western journalists to report on genocide in a Serb-run concentration camp. Shortly after the story was published the camp was closed and the Red Cross let in. Their reporting led to public outrage, and official condemnation by the United Nations. GUTTMAN won a Pulitzer Prize for this reporting. The dispatches have now been collected in a new book, "A Witness to Genocide: The 1993 Pulitzer Prize-Winning Dispatches on the 'Ethnic Cleansing' of Bosnia." (Macmillan Publishing). 2: Veteran TV journalist DAVID BRINKLEY. His book, Washington Goes to War, was a surprise best-seller. The book, based on Brinkley's personal experiences and reflections, told the story of Washington in the early 40s, and how both the government and town itself were transformed by the responsibilities thrust on them as a result of the war. Book critic MAUREEN CORRIGAN reviews the new collection of stories by Andre Dubus "Dancing After Hours." ( Writer ANDRE DUBUS ("dah-bues"). Dubus' short stories earned him 1991's Bernard Malamud Award from the writers group, PEN. In 1986 DUBUS was crippled when he was hit by a car as he was trying to assist another motorist. Sen. Jim Jeffords (R-VT) Profile
NPR's Steve Inskeep profiles Vermont Sen. Jim Jeffords, a moderate Republican who cast a crucial vote against President Bush's $1.6 trillion tax cut proposal. Sen. Jeffords' tie-breaking ability on close votes in the evenly divided Senate gives him considerable influence. He used it to help reduce the size of the tax cut by about a fourth and divert more than $200 billion of it to pay for special education. Jeffords was just re-elected and has received less criticism in his home-state than from conservative Republicans in Washington, D.C.

Queen Elizabeth II is the second-longest reigning monarch in history
Taking the crown on Feb. 6, 1952, the queen has ruled the United Kingdom for more than 70 years. Her tenure on the throne is second only to French King Louis XIV.
Kentucky highway fatalities drop in post-peak COVID period
Fatalities last year along Kentucky highways decreased for the first time since 2018. State officials say the 744 deaths reflect a 7.6% drop over 2021.

Today General Motors and the United Auto Workers reached a tentative agreement that could end the seventeen-day strike against two parts plants. The strike has idled most of GM's North American plants and furloughed more than one hundred seventy five thousand workers. Linda Wertheimer speaks with NPR's Don Gonyea about what will happen after the union votes on the agreement. (3:30) 6. IMMIGRATION -- The House is due to vote today on a bill overhauling immigration laws. One of its provisions would allow states to deny public schooling to children of illegal immigrants. In addition, the House may follow the Senate's lead by splitting the measure into two parts, separating rules dealing with legal immigrants. Fox News had begun to distance itself from Trump recently, as the Jan. 6 panel cast him in harsh light. The FBI raiding Mar-a-Lago has right-wing media, including Fox, snapping back to his defense.

Britain Blocks Manuscript Sale To Getty Museum
The Getty Museum in Los Angeles reportedly paid more than $6 million recently at an auction in London for a 15th century illuminated manuscript. The Los Angeles Times reports Britain's culture minister has blocked the work from leaving the country — putting it under an export embargo.
