The United States Attorney's Office Western District of Kentucky

U.S. Attorney Russell Coleman has resigned. Coleman has been U.S. Attorney for the western district of Kentucky since 2017. He was nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the U S Senate. His resignation is effective January 20th, inauguration day for Democrat Joe Biden.

It’s common for U.S. attorneys of the party opposite of a new president to leave office.

In a statement Monday, Coleman denounced the attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters on January 6th, saying he hoped that each perpetrator is brought to justice.

Coleman also said he was quote, ‘plagued’ by the 173 Louisvillians who were killed by violent crime in 2020.
