Fayette County Using New Voting Equipment This Month

facebook.com

New voting machines will soon be available for use in Fayette County.  There will be limited use during the upcoming June 23rd Primary Election because the emphasis is on mail-in voting.

During Lexington city council’s Tuesday work session, Mayor Linda Gorton said the new paper ballot method will be employed at the single Election Day voting location at UK’s Kroger Field. “If you go, you’ll mark your ballot and then you will hand walk it over to the scanner and scan it in.  And so, the whole process to me appears very secure,” said Gorton.

Gorton said the new voting method in Lexington provides for a backup paper ballot.  A representative from the Fayette County Clerk’s Office said the plan is to use the new machines at all voting locations for the November Presidential Election.  However, officials say that could change based on the status of coronavirus at that time.?
