Newly re-elected Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles said continuing to grow the hemp industry requires more attention in the nation’s capital. Quarles said hemp -related speed bumps are to be expected.
He said hemp producers face the lack of access to credit from banks and the unclear roll of the FDA over hemp products.
"So," he said, "we’re trying to focus on making sure that our legal hemp companies have an equal shot in Kentucky.”
Quarles said his goal in a second term is to make Kentucky the agriculture technology hub for the country. Quarles is from Scott County and defeated another Scott County farmer, Robert Conway and libertarian Josh Gilpin in this week’s election.
