Sixth District Congressman Andy Barr is officially seeking a fourth term in Washington. The 44 year old Lexington attorney filed his candidacy papers in Frankfort Thursday.
The congressman calls 2017 a ‘landmark year’, claiming sustained economic growth and a federal tax cut as two examples.
The republican held district has attracted a lot of democratic candidate interest including Lexington Mayor Jim Gray. Barr says he’s not thinking about potential opposition. “To me, it doesn’t matter who the democrats nominate to run against me, whether it’s Jim Gray, Mayor Gray or any of the other candidates who have filed to run because I’m going to be running on my record,” said Barr.
Barr says he’d like two more years to focus on a number of issues. He puts reducing the opioid addiction crisis at the top of the list. Thus far, Barr has no GOP opposition.
In addition to Gray, the democratic race also features Retired Marine Amy McGrath, State Senator Reggie Thomas, retired state engineer Geoff Young and Theodore David Green of Lexington.
