Lexington Mayor Jim Gray is hoping to move from City Hall to Capitol Hill. The Glasgow native took the first step in the race for U.S. Senate Tuesday with a Primary win over six competitors.
Gray, in his second term as mayor of the state’s second largest city, told supporters he worked with Democrats and Republicans at City Hall to turn a deficit into a surplus. The construction company exec-turned politician says the same approach can work in Washington. He took swipes at his incumbent opponent Rand Paul, including a clear statement on his political aspirations, “Now you have got my word, I am never running for president,”
Gray is referring to Paul’s decision to run for U.S. President and Senate at the same time. Like Gray, Paul had an easy time winning his primary election over two challengers.
