Political Stalwart McBrayer Laments 21st Century Campaign Style

McBrayer, McGinnis, Leslie & Kirkland

Long-time political stalwart Terry McBrayer expects a deluge of negative ads as a part of Kentucky's U.S. Senate race.  The contest between incumbent Mitch McConnell and Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes begins officially Wednesday. Each of them won primary contests yesterday.

McBrayer, who made an unsuccessful run for governor 35 years ago,  attended Alison Lundergan Grimes' event Tuesday night in Lexington. McBrayer expects millions to be spent on political advertising.  "Well, it will be a war, there will be literally 50-60 million dollars in TV.  You're not gonna be able to watch your favorite program, because you'll be interrupted by commercials," said McBrayer.

McBrayer made a run for Kentucky governor in 1979, losing in a four-part primary to eventual Governor John Y. Brown.  He says, back then, there were jabs made at opposing candidates, but not acts to destroy credibility as are found today. ?McBrayer remains friends with Brown today.
